That Mitchell And Webb Look Pilot: Warming Up…
I have just had pretty much the best night out in a rather long time. We went to see the recording of the TV pilot version of that popular Radio 4 comedy ‘That Mitchell And Webb Sound’ which is now known as ‘That Mitchell And Webb Look’ for obvious reasons. The first great thing was the delicious chocolate brownie and coffee in the BBC cafe and the second was that Lucy Porter did the warmup (we love her warmup from waaaay back when she did the ‘Marigold’ pilot) which involved her usual brand of nice yet a bit rude chatty banter with the audience. However, as the audience contained my fellow comedy nerds Aaron and Jessie at the other end of our front row it all got a bit surreal when we became involved in said banter. I do believe I showed my rubbish beard to the entire studio audience, plugged the lovely bookshop, slated the writings of Dan Brown and professed my love for Jamie to all and sundry. And mundry and tuesdry but that is a whole other thing… Poor Aaron took on the regular warmup role of the embarrassed young man for Lucy to mother/flirt with while Jessie was young and pretty to Lucy’s pretend bitter old and ugly routine, all in the best possible taste. The banter also included a bunch of rowdy fans who were rather obsessed with Robert Webb, a young man with a weird long beard and an old man who liked science. Sounds rubbish on virtual paper but very good in the flesh. A fun time was had by all and that didn’t even include the main act…
She looks like a magician but she don’t do no tricks!
