Magicians publicity

Sunday, May 13th, 2007

Coming soon

Magicians is reviewed on that Guardian Film Podcast that can be found here. There may also be an interview. Here is a bit of it:

‘… Mitchell and Webb, whose new film Magicians is a bit of a test for them. Can they really justify escaping Peep Show and Mac ads to make a big screen film? I thought the movie was OK, nothing great, but there are a few decent gags and a gentle humour throughout. Talking to them about the debut, they seem very matter-of-fact. “It’s not our money,” they counter. Someone asks you to be the lead in a film and you say yes. They’re right – it may not happen again. They even seemed a little nervous to be interviewed, which was rather endearing. I spoke to the film’s director too, As soon as he walked in, I recognised him from his days as a quiz show presenter – he’s Andrew O’Connor, who’s now made a fortune from producing magic shows like Derren Brown. He talks a very good game. ‘

Er…

Robert and David were also on Soccer AM yesterday and Transmission on Friday night. No clips found yet but I shall keep looking.

Those Mitchell And Webb Things…

Saturday, May 12th, 2007

Series 3 of That Mitchell And Webb Sound is now all recorded and very very funny. Last night’s session at The Drill Hall included the (un)surprising return of an old favourite character, the return of a certain imaginative discussion scenario, some technical delays before recording, a very obnoxious but definitely hilarious talking horse, some nice malted chocolate milkshakes, some new interesting ideas for magazines, me nearly wetting myself shortly before the interval, and a credits sequence that featured literally several dozen writers. Probably. You may think that having so many writers would diminish the mirth levels and give the episodes no real defining character but thankfully that is not the case. Hurrah.

We had a brief chat with the marvellous Olivia Colman in the bar. Bless her utter loveliness and pregnant glow and all that jazz. Next week: That Mitchell And Webb Look sort of practice thing with some new sketches getting the Laughometer treatment.

James Bachman from the show was in a radio pilot thing today that I missed as I was in bed. Bah… but it’s on the Radio 2 Listen Again thing so hurrah. Look out for Sasha’s Best Of Britain and treat your ears.

If you missed Peep Show you can use the cunning 4OD thing to catch up. The 22st century is so confusing!

That Mitchell And Webb Sound begins its time on Radio 4 on May 24th at 6:30. Oh yes.

Daydream Believers: Back into time…

Sunday, May 6th, 2007

Before there was the Daydream Believers pilot on Radio 2 in 2007 there was a Comedy Lab episode on Channel 4 in 2001 . Here it is but it’s not as good as the radio version:

That’ll keep you busy for a while.

Just leave it!

Saturday, May 5th, 2007

The bad thing is trying to happen again! After the aborted attempt by Fox (at least I think it was Fox. I blogged about it a long time ago) to do an American remake of Peep Show for no good reason at all, news reaches me and you about another potential remake. From Digital Spy:

‘American cable network Spike TV is reported to have done a deal with RDF USA subsidary Pangea to develop a US version of Peep Show. The show, made by UK company Objective Productions, is currently on its fourth series on Channel 4, with a fifth already commissioned. Starring David Mitchell and Robert Webb, the UK version is on its second season on BBC America in the US. Curb Your Enthusiasm executive producer Robert Weide is believed to be linked as writer and director. Objective and Pangea will jointly produce. Andrew O’Connor, chief executive of Objective, will executive produce along with Objective head of comedy Phil Clarke, Weide and RDF USA’s Chris Coelen. The project is in early development and is a rare move into sitcom for Spike, best known for dramas The Kill Point and Blade, and showing reruns of The Shield, CSI, Star Trek and The Dukes of Hazzard. Spike TV is part of the Viacom-owned MTV Networks and predominantly caters for a young male audience. ‘

Meh.

It was Fox first time round. I Googled it and found myself and the picture I had posted. Prepare for the horror…
not Peep Show
Geh!
